The Yoga Philosophy Sessions
An ongoing series of workshops (a study group, if you will) for yoga teachers, student teachers and experienced yoga practitioners.
An opportunity, once a month, for us to enjoy delving deeply into the wisdom and philosophy of yoga. We will begin our adventures by looking at the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, taking our time, line by line, to investigate this extraordinary text which contains profound and practical advice for understanding ourselves and the world we share.
We will be looking at the Sanskrit, the different translations and interpretations of the text and considering what it means for us in our daily lives. There will be plenty of scope for discussion as well as some practical exercises, chanting and meditation.
I am hopeful that this group will grow into a warm and supportive place where we can share this ancient knowledge for our mutual benefit.
Saturday, November 30th, 2019; 10:30am to 12:30pm
How do we arrive at a state of Yoga? What can help us to achieve this? We will look at the concepts of practice and detachment and consider the idea of faith. Is it necessary to have a belief in God? These ideas can be applied to many elements of life; how do we reach our goals, how do we make positive change?
Saturday, January 11th, 2020; 10:30am to 12:30pm
What gets in the way of us achieving a state of yoga? What gets in the way of us being able to move forwards in life as we’d like to? Patañjali highlights the likely problems along the way and suggests ways to overcome them, and his suggestions are as applicable today as they were 800 years ago. The world may change, but it seems we humans change very little.
